# Track connectors and layout planning

LAYOUT PLANNING · By [Victoria](https://www.jhtlightaccessories.com/pages/about-us-1/), Sales Manager

A track layout is built from straight, L, T, X, mini straight and flexible connectors, live ends, end caps and suspension parts. This guide explains what each connector does and how to describe a ceiling run so the right set can be quoted.

**Direct answer.** A track run is assembled from a rail profile plus connectors: a live end feeds power in, end caps close unused ends, straight and mini straight connectors join lengths, L, T and X connectors turn or branch the run, flexible connectors bend it, and suspension parts hang it below the ceiling.

## The connector set published per model

Every track model on this site lists its standard connectors on the product page. The set covers the parts that decide the shape of the run: live end cup, straight, mini straight, L, T, X, hard and soft flexible connectors, end cup, long clamp and suspension kits.

- Live end cup — feeds the supply into the rail and closes that end.
- Straight and mini straight connectors — join two rail lengths in a straight run.
- L, T and X connectors — turn a run through 90°, branch it, or cross it.
- Hard and soft flexible connectors — join lengths at an angle or around an obstacle.
- End cup — closes a rail end that is not fed.
- Long clamp and suspension kits — support the rail, directly or hanging below the ceiling.

## How to describe a run so the set can be quoted

With those five points, the connector set and the rail lengths can be confirmed instead of estimated. A rough sketch photographed from a phone is usually enough — it does not need to be a CAD drawing.

- The shape of the run: straight, L, U or branched, with approximate lengths.
- Where power enters the run and how many switched groups are needed.
- Whether the rail sits on the ceiling or hangs below it.
- The rail profile you are working to, if it is not one of ours.
- The number of luminaires and where they sit on the run.

## Key facts

| Specification | Value |
| --- | --- |
| In lighting accessories since | 2010 |
| Factory area | 10,000 m² |
| Minimum order | Housings 300 pcs per size · track and components 100 pcs |
| Samples | 3–10 days for an established model, within 2 weeks in all cases |
| Mass production | 15–35 days depending on order quantity |
| UL / ETL | Not held — no UL or ETL claim is made |

## Questions this guide answers

Can a track run be curved?

Rail is supplied in fixed lengths and runs are formed with the connectors listed for the profile, including flexible types. Send the intended shape and we will confirm what the range covers.

How many luminaires can sit on one run?

That depends on the load and the supply, and it is settled with the project’s electrical designer. We publish the rail platform, its conductors and its connectors, not a general luminaire count.

Do you cut rails to length?

Rail lengths are confirmed with the quotation. Send the run lengths you need and we will confirm what can be supplied for that profile.
